Soldier- police clash at Govt House Maiduguri

JOINT STATEMENT BY THE NIGERIAN ARMY AND THE NIGERIA POLICE FORCE IN BORNO STATE OVER A CONTAINED FRACAS BETWEEN A POLICEMAN AND A SOLDIER AT THE DEPUTY GOVERNOR'S OFFICE ON THURSDAY, JUNE 23, 2016

In the morning hours of today, Thursday, June 23, 2016, there was an unfortunate fracas between a soldier and a policeman around the office of the Deputy Governor over a disagreement which led to the unfortunate shooting of a policeman on his foot. The policeman is responding to treatment and has been visited by the theatre commander, operation Lafiya Dole, Major General LEO Irabor and the Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command, Aminchi Baraya, both of whom went together to sympathize with the policeman. 

By way of background from the Permanent Secretary, Government House and Security, Mr Ahmed Sanda, the Borno State Government had on Sunday, June 19, 2019 began the distribution of rice to internally displaced persons living in the host communities of Maiduguri and Jere metropolis. The distribution was meant to take place at 28 wards of the two local government areas unfortunately, when the exercise was launched in old Maiduguri ward for Jere local government area and at Shehuri north ward for Maiduguri on Sunday, hoodlums overpowered the committee in both instances and made away with many bags of the rice meant for the displaced persons. As a result, officials tasked with the distribution shifted the exercise to two premises around the office of the Deputy Governor outside the Government House in order to ensure security of the food items while beneficiaries were identified and issued with allocation notes to give them access to the distribution centers. The exercise had gone smoothly since Sunday with some wards covered, until the unfortunate development today, Thursday. 

The Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force in Maiduguri jointly condemn this unfortunate incident which was quickly brought under full control within minutes.  

The Army and the Police are jointly investigating the cause of the fracas with a view to ensuring that anyone found culpable amongst the security men are made to face disciplinary measures in line with laid down rules of the Nigerian Armed Forces. Findings and measures taken will be brought to public knowledge as soon as possible. 

The Army and the police operating in Borno assure the general public that they will continue to collaborate and work together towards their ongoing counter insurgency and civil security efforts that have led to the emerging peace in Borno State. 

The Army and the Police commands in Borno State call on all personnel to exercise restraint in the cause of their duties and should strive to respect one another and work together to secure innocent citizens and maintain peace.

District head rapes a teenager

District head of Goron Maje in Dan Batta LGA of kano state; Alhaji Uaman Musa Mohammed has been accused of raping a 14 year old girl. Reports indicate that the girl was tested HIV positive when she went for a test with her suitor preparatory for their marriage. When asked on how she got infected with the HIV virus the girl revealed that the district head has been having an affair with her but has warned her not to tell anybody and threatened to kill her if she dates reveal their relationship to a third party. meanwhile emir of kano Muhammad Sanusi the iii has suspended the district head and set up a committee to investigate the matter. DG kano state Hisbah board sheikh Aminu Daurawa said his board will soon summon the district head for interrogation.

we have never been given a penny for IDPs says Gov Gaidam

Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe state says the state has never received any money from the federal government for as a paliative following the insurgency in the state.
Governor gaidam told a crowd of APC supporters at the government house Damaturu, who gathered to witness his assent to the 2016  finance and appropriation bill, explained that the state had only benefittted from twenty million naira from the victiom support fund.
according to him, only sixteen million of the twenty million naira was given to the specialist hospital Damaturu for the free treatment of victims of boko haram attacks in the hospital.
The governor explained that the only money the state will boast to have gotten was the fifty million naira donated to the state by the Lagos state government, which was extended to Adamawa and Borno states.
He said the state government has been spending huge sum of money in providing water, medical care, food and education to the internally Displaced persons in the three major camps and those in host communities.
in another development, the general manger of the state rural water supply and sanitation agency (RUWASA) comrade mohammed M Bukar has restated the determination of his agency to provide portable water and sanitation facilities to the internally Displaced persons in all recognised camps.
he said RUWASA in collaboration with its partner agencies such as UNICEF, Medecine San Frontiere and ACF are working toward improving the sanitary condition of the IDPs, adding that adequate water supply has been maintained in the camps. this according to him had convinced the IDPs to apply for plots of land in Kuka reta to enable them settle there permanently.
the General manager stated that RUWASA will soon construct 5 blocks of 2 compartment latrine and shower room at Abbari-YBC host community with a view to discouraging open defecation among the IDPs.
He commended the state governor Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam for his concern towards the welfare of the IDPs.

Yobe Governor swears in LGA caretaker chairmen

Governor jbrahim Gaidam has sworn in the newly appointed 17 Local government caretaker committees chairmen today with a call on then to be prudent bin the management of scarce resources. Governor Gaidam said the on going staff verification exercise embarked upon in aome  LGAs was meant to ensure that workers receive only what is due foe them and wage total war against ghost workers syndrome which is synonymous with local government service. He said excess money realise from the exercise will be channelled to the execution of people oriented projects. He stated that the federal government had since withdrawn funding of SURE-p initiative adding that his administration out of concern towards the welfare of youths continued with the program to provide succour to the teeming unemployed youths in the state. Alhai Ibrahim Gaidam enjoined people to offer prayers for the success of his administration rather than raining curse which will afversely affect them. Amonh those sworn in are Alhaji Muhammad Misa Potiskum for Potiakum: the Rector College of agriculture Gujba Alhaji Mulima Idi Mato for Geidam and Alhaji Ballama Budu for Yusufari. meanwhile; governor Gaidam has announced the appointment of thw chief Imam of Izala mosque Damaturu Ustaz Baba Gana Kyari as his Senior special Assistant on religious affairs.
